 September 4-8

Learning Outcomes

Math

Students analyze patterns in place value

-express numbers within 10 000 000

 What Did Students Do?

In math, we started by playing the game SKUNK.  We then began digging into our work. In small groups, students represented numbers in various different ways.  They reviewed the names of place value numbers to the left of, and including, the ones place.  They used base ten blocks to represent their numbers.  Students practiced being able to write and verbalize numbers up to 10 000 000 accurately. We started working with four digit numbers. Students played Build the Greater Number to further practice these skills. Next week, we will work towards recognizing, verbalizing and representing even larger numbers.

Ask Your Child

-How do you say this number,  13 985 241?

-How do you play the game SKUNK?

-How are you feeling about grade 5?

-Tell me about The Power of One.

-Tell me about your big question for the year - How can I make a difference?
